There are many different causes of lower back pain. The nerves in the lower back going down the legs may be irritated, the bones in the lower back may be out of alignment, the muscles in the lower back may be pulled or strained, or a disc may be degenerating, herniated, bulged, or ruptured.
How does the lower back pain originate? Lower back pain can originate from bending over to lift something up, lifting something heavy, job related circumstances, from sitting eight hours a day in an uncomfortable chair to having to put your body in awkward, twisted positions on the job. Sports injuries can initiate lower back pain, along with daily activities such as vacuuming, moving furniture, yard work, weeding, raking, shoveling, or scrubbing a floor. Car accidents can result in lower back pain.
How do you get rid of lower back pain? There are several options to choose from to alleviate lower back pain. Chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy, strengthening exercises, ice or heat 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, and medical methods such as medication, injections, or surgery to get rid of lower back pain. Chiropractic fixes the cause of the lower back pain instead of masking the symptoms. A typical visit would be after an examination, the patient lays on the water table to relax the lower back muscles. The water table is constant deep massage jets that hit the whole back at once, without getting wet, helping relax and decrease the lower back pain. Next, a patient that has a disc problem can utilize the traction table or inversion table (one’s preference) to gently open up the disc space, which feels great to a patient that has lower back pain from a disc problem. The traction table gently stretches and relaxes the lower back and looses up the lower back pain. While on the traction table, the doctor uses a hand held massager to relax the lower back muscles. Therapeutic ultrasound can be used to relax the muscles and ligaments of the lower back. Finally, the lower back pain can be helped through a chiropractic adjustment or spinal manipulation. The vertebrae or bones in the spine and pelvis go out of position, pinch on the nerves and pull on the muscles that are connected to the bones causing lower back pain. An adjustment consists of relaxing the muscles and gently realigning a bone to take pressure off a pinched nerve. This simple treatment can help alleviate lower back pain.
