Sciatica pain can easily be treated through Chiropractic treatments.
Sciatica pain is a common complaint that can be debilitating and extremely uncomfortable. Sciatica is a sharp, shooting pain running down one or both legs. Sciatica pain can also be a numbness, tingling, or burning sensation.
The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body. It starts in the lower back and branches to the buttock region, hips, and down both legs to the feet. A common cause of sciatica pain is a “subluxation”. A subluxation is a bone (vertebrae) out of position, pinching on the nerve. The bones in the lower back go out of position, pinch on the sciatic nerve, causing a pain that radiates down the legs. Other causes of sciatica are piriformis syndrome, disc herniations and spinal stenosis.
Chiropractic can help alleviate sciatic pain by relaxing the muscles in the lower back and gently repositioning the bones in the lower back, which makes the sciatic pain go away. The leg length is checked to make sure the legs are even. When one leg is shorter then another, that can indicate that the pelvis/buttock region is out of position. When the pelvis/buttock region is out of position, the bones can pinch on the sciatic nerve, causing a lot of pain.
Through a gentle and specific spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment, the chiropractor realigns the lower back to ensure that the pressure of the misaligned bone is moved off the sciatic nerve. This will instantly restore blood flow and nerve supply to the leg and foot. This can result in the patient immediately loosing the painful sensation associated with sciatica. The patient can eventually resume normal activities.
Sciatica pain can result from a car accident, sports injuries, raking, shoveling, gardening, sleeping wrong such as having an uncomfortable mattress, or simply just bending over to pick something up and throwing out your lower back. Once the lower back is realigned, exercises are beneficial for sciatica.
1. Knee to chest exercises
Lie on your back with knees bent, with feet on the floor, slightly apart. Bend one knee up towards your chest and hold knee with both hands. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times, alternating
legs
2. Gluteal/piriformis stretch
Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor, slightly apart. Raise you right leg and put right foot on left thigh, slightly above knee. Hold for 30 seconds, then alternate
legs.
